PENENTUAN LOKASI INTALASI PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH TERNAK BERDASARKAN METODE INDEKS PENCEMARAN PADA SUNGAI SADDANG

Abstract

The Saddang River is experiencing a decrease in water quality. Sources of pollutants come from residential areas, industries, and trade centers. One of the trades centers is the livestock market. In addition to trading places of staple goods, a special location for livestock trades, especially of buffalo and pigs, is also located in the market. The existence of this market provides an extremely large contribution to the government and society in North Toraja Regency. Apart from being a source of regional income, this livestock market also serves as a tourist destination due to its uniqueness. The large number of livestock causes problems to the environment as waste from the livestock has not been handled properly. The waste from livestock directly flows into natural and artificial channels to the Saddang river, located 64 meters from the livestock market. Therefore, measures in the development of processing technology and water resource conservation become necessary, one of which is to determine the location of the WWTP. On that account, the purpose of this study is to determine the livestock WWTP location in Saddang River. The method of this research is field research by determining the coordinates of water sampling with the assistance of the Geographic Information System (GIS) application and laboratory research to determine water quality standards based on the Pollution Index. The results show that the placement of  WWTP location is planned at ST04 and ST05 to process waste that will flow into river bodies and make it safer, in accordance with the environmental quality standards.
