Abstract

Traffic problems at unsignalized intersections have been increasing in line with the growing vehicle volume, particularly in commercial and tourism areas. This study aims to analyze the performance of a four-leg unsignalized intersection at Jl. Raya Singapadu – Jl. Palguna – Jl. Pasar Negari, Gianyar, Bali, based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023, using degree of saturation (DS), average delay, and queue probability as key parameters. The results indicate that the existing intersection condition has a DS of 0.87 and an average delay of 14.94 seconds/pcu, classifying its performance as unsatisfactory. Three improvement alternatives were evaluated, namely approach widening, vehicle turning restrictions, and a combination of both. The combined alternative yielded the best outcome, with a DS of 0.73 and an average delay of 12.60 seconds/pcu, demonstrating improved efficiency and smoother traffic flow. This study highlights that geometric interventions and vehicle movement management are effective strategies for enhancing the performance of unsignalized intersections in high-activity areas.
