The increasing population and activities in Aceh Besar Regency have resulted in high traffic volumes, especially on Jalan Laksamana Malahayati, which is the main access between Banda Aceh City and Aceh Besar. Kajhu Public Elementary School is located on the edge of the road, but there are no pedestrian crossing facilities, so the safety of students and pedestrians crossing the road is threatened. This study aims to analyze traffic conditions and the need for crossing facilities in front of Kajhu Public Elementary School and recommend appropriate types of facilities. The methods used include surveys of vehicle traffic volume, vehicle speed, and pedestrian crossing volume in the morning (07.00–08.00 WIB) and afternoon (12.00–13.00 WIB) on weekdays (Monday, Wednesday) and weekends (Saturday). Data analysis refers to the 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) and the 2023 Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Pedestrian Facility Technical Planning Guidelines. The survey results show that the highest traffic volume was recorded at 1200 vehicles/hour (Kajhu–Baet) and 1302 vehicles/hour (Baet–Kajhu), with the highest average vehicle speed of 33.30 km/hour on motorcycles. The highest pedestrian crossing volume occurred on Monday, namely 369 people/hour (morning) and 441 people/hour (afternoon). The PV² analysis shows a value of more than 2×108, so a pelican crossing facility (zebra crossing with light signals) is recommended to improve safety. Crossing facilities are very necessary for the safety of students and the community.
