Abstract

oads play an important role in the field of trade. However, the Gerilya Street segment often experiences traffic congestion due to high activity levels, particularly commercial activities. This condition forces many vehicles to park on the shoulder and main road, creating what is known as side friction. The level of roadside activity greatly influences the performance of a road. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of side friction, measured through the level of service, on the Gerilya Street segment. The research employs field surveys and VISSIM simulations. Several types of data were collected, including road geometric data, vehicle volume, side friction, and road capacity. These data refer to the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. Based on the analysis results, the Gerilya Street segment falls into the very high side friction classification, with a weighted frequency value of 949.7, a degree of saturation of 0.890, and a low level of service categorized as Level of Service E. This indicates that traffic conditions are highly congested to the point of saturation, leading to frequent traffic jams. Reducing side friction and widening lanes are recommended to improve traffic efficiency.
