Abstract

Bridges are critical infrastructure requiring continuous serviceability to support traffic flow and economic activities. This study presents the results of a detailed condition assessment of the Siak III Bridge, with a span length of 520 meters and a deck width of 11 meters, located in Pekanbaru City, conducted in 2024. Inspection methodologies comprised visual condition survey, geometric surveying using total station, material characterization via Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques including Schmidt Hammer Test, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), and Rebar Locator scanning. Structural assessment included dynamic frequency testing to evaluate axial forces and stress distribution in all hanger cables. Inspection findings revealed significant deterioration in critical structural elements, notably the bottom chord members and steel connections, with condition ratings classified as Category 3, indicating urgent remedial intervention is necessary. Furthermore, hanger force assessment showed non-uniform tensile force distribution, with several hangers exceeding 81% of their ultimate tensile capacity based on 2024 test data—an increase relative to 2012 measurements. Observed structural deformations included changes in camber and bearing displacement. Conclusions highlight the imperative for immediate structural maintenance, focusing on load redistribution and reinforcement of hanger cables and repair or replacement of compromised bottom chord components. Recommended technical actions involve detailed coordination with contractors and material suppliers to implement corrective adjustments and strengthening measures for the hanger system.
